LED lighting: a new technology is changing the adjustable white light solution

Adjustable white LED is one of the key elements of people-oriented lighting. Until today, different solutions are available, but no solution is easy to apply or cost-effective enough to accelerate the diffusion of people-oriented lighting in construction projects. A new method for adjustable white light solutions can provide flexible lighting for a variety of occasions without sacrificing output or exceeding the project budget. Before entering the new adjustable white light technology, we need to check the shortcomings of the traditional adjustable white light solutions to fully grasp the latest technological progress of color adjustment. Since the emergence of LED lighting, with the expansion of potential applications, people know that led lamps can provide different light colors. Although adjustable white light lighting has become one of the biggest trends of commercial lighting, the demand for efficient and economical adjustable white light lamps is rising. Let's look at the problems of traditional adjustable white light solutions and how new technologies can bring changes to the lighting industry.

Problems of traditional adjustable white light source

In the traditional LED lamp light source, the surface mount LED with a separate lens is scattered in a large circuit board area, and each light source is clearly visible. Most adjustable white light solutions combine two sets of LEDs: one with warm white and the other with cold white. You can create white between two color dots by increasing and decreasing the output of two color LEDs. Mixing colors to the two extremes of the CCT range on 100 watt lamps will result in a loss of up to 50% of the total lumen output of the light source, because the intensity of warm and cold LEDs is inversely proportional to each other. In order to achieve a complete output of 100 Watts at a color temperature of 2700 K or 6500 K, twice the number of lamps is required. In the traditional adjustable white light design, it provides inconsistent lumen output over the whole CCT range, and the lumen intensity will be lost when mixing the color to two extremes without complex control mechanism.


Another key element of adjustable white lighting is the control system. In many cases, adjustable white lamps can only be paired with specific drivers, which may lead to incompatibility of projects with modified or existing dimming drivers. In this case, it is necessary to specify an expensive independent control system for adjustable white light lamps. Since the cost is usually the reason why adjustable white light lamps are not specified, independent control system makes adjustable white light lamps less feasible. In the traditional adjustable white light solution, the light intensity loss in the process of color mixing, poor light source visibility and expensive control system are the common reasons why adjustable white light lamps are not used more.

Using the latest flip chip technology

The latest adjustable white light solution adopts flip chip cob LED technology. Flip chip is a kind of LED chip that can be directly installed. Its heat transfer is 70% better than that of traditional SMD (surface mounted diode). It significantly reduces the thermal resistance and improves the heat dissipation level, so that the flip LED can be placed tightly on the 1.2-inch chip. The goal of the new adjustable white light solution is to reduce the price of LED components without affecting performance and quality. Flip chip cob LED is not only more cost-effective than SMD LED, but also its unique packaging method can provide a large number of lumens at high wattage. Flip chip cob technology also provides 30% more lumen output than traditional SMD LEDs.

The advantage of making LEDs more focused is that they can provide uniform light in all directions.

With compact light engine, it can also realize adjustable white light function in lamps with small aperture. The new technology provides the lowest thermal resistance on the market, with only 0.3 K / W junction to TS measurement point, so as to provide consistent performance and longer service life in lamps with higher wattage. Each of these 1.2-inch cob LEDs produces 10000 lumens, the highest lumen output of adjustable white light solutions on the market. Other existing adjustable white light products have an efficiency rating of 40-50 lumens per watt, while the new adjustable white light solution has an efficiency rating of 105 lumens per watt and a color rendering index of more than 85.
